The Wellness Committee at LAG+USC Emergency Medicine aims to equip residents with the knowledge and skills to successfully navigate residency by developing new social support networks and increasing individual and collective emotional and physical wellbeing through a comprehensive three-pronged approach that embodies education, community building, and mental health support.

A comprehensive list of Wellness Resources can be accessed privately using our Microsoft Teams channel.

Our Three-Pronged Approach

Educational

A longitudinal curriculum covering multiple domains of wellness such as communication, resilience, and financial wellness. Examples include intimate, interactive sessions on conflict resolution, compassion fatigue, sleep hygiene, leadership styles, and more.

Community-Building

We prioritize community and make efforts to draw our residents together outside of the ED through a variety of program sponsored and resident run activities. Activities and upcoming hangouts are highlighted in our Wellness Weekly Newsletters.

Some of these activities include: Lunar New Year an International Women’s Day Celebrations, Movie Nights, Paint Nights, Massage Days, Fitness Challenges, Pride Parade, Beach Days, Bonfire Get-Togethers, Ski + Snowboarding Trips, Camping Trips, Trivia Nights, Inter-Class Gatherings, Hikes, Surf Sessions, Happy Hours, Yoga in the Park, Team Sports Activities, Cultural Potlucks, Turkey Trot 5K, and Intern Welcome Programming.

Mental Health Support

Investing in our mental well-being is critical to being the best providers for our patients as well as the best version of ourselves outside of work. We help to support mental well-being through regular resident check-ins with the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Wellness Office throughout the year and through the distribution of various mental health and life planning resources to the resident body though the program website and Wellness Weekly Newsletter for easier access and visibility.
